From there, you can determine which charities work best with your abilities, the time you have available, or the items you have to give.

Planning a Fundraiser for Charity

Most non-profit organizations raise money for charitable causes. Organizations use the funds for everything from building houses to preserving history. While employees earn salaries, the majority of the funds go toward the charity’s mission statement. As such, the people planning the event often work on a shoestring budget.

If you’re just delving into the world of non-profit fundraising, you may need help finding ways to cut costs without sacrificing promotion. Here are a few classic ways to plan and promote your event:

  • Get Sponsors. Large corporations often look for opportunities to give back to the community. Additionally, businesses may get tax benefits to donate to your event. Check with large companies in your area and see whether they would be willing to purchase promotional materials, like flyers or newspaper ads, or provide funds to cater the event. Sponsors may be more willing to support your cause if you offer to advertise them on the promotional materials.
  • Sell tickets to the event. If you start planning soon enough, you may be able to get the event supplies free or at very little cost. That means the funds you get through ticket sales can go directly to the charity’s goal. You can even host an auction using donated gifts and prizes.
  • Use volunteers. People who can’t donate money may donate time. Have volunteers hand out flyers at the mall or to people walking down the street. Volunteers may go around to local businesses and ask to display promotional materials in the windows or on bulletin boards.

Planning and promoting an event doesn’t have to cost much. Take advantage of sponsors and volunteers to make the event successful.

Find Out How Abused Women Suffer Before You Do Charity . Just Use The Web

What can I possibly have that a battered woman would want? I do not know them. I do not know their problems. I cannot identify why they continue living with an abusive spouse. In such a scenario, what can I possibly do in charity that would help them feel better? Despite having noble intentions, they invariably end up procrastinating or ignoring their own desire to do charity. Well, what is stopping you from logging on to the internet and knowing more about battered woman?

If you feel that identifying with the misery of the victim is a prerequisite for sensible and useful charity, then why don’t you take the first step and learn more about battered woman?

The important thing is that your sense of identification with the battered woman is not relevant at all. Unless you are desirous of becoming a volunteer or counselor who provides assistance to battered woman, you can always restrict your charity to cash or in kind without understanding the problems they face.

If you are truly curious why woman continue in abusive relationships, there are adequate resources on the internet to learn more. However, do not make it a prerequisite for charity. If you wish to do some good, you will, in some way or the other, find a way. On the other hand, if you do not wish to give, then all these questions can become immovable obstacles.

Once you donate for a few months, you will automatically realize that your money and charity has made a difference even if you personally have not made any.

Think Long Term When Giving Charities What They Really Need

It is obvious that the residents of safe houses for battered woman and abused children will require adequate heating facilities during the cold winter. However, you should think a bit ahead and consider the harmful effects of the excessive cold on the structure.

The structure may seem safe today. However, the excessive cold may have led to contraction of water pipes and other structures in the house. The insulation may have lost its ability to keep the heat inside and the cold outside. This combined with minor damage to the roof means that water is going to seep into the home when it rains.

The presence of water combined with heat is going to cause expansion in the various joints and beams in the structure. This is the reason why proper maintenance of a structure is an unending process. Where the building or safe house is catering to a large number of individuals at once, it is obvious that maintenance expenses will be very high.

In such a scenario, you can do your bit and offer donations specifically directed towards the maintenance of the building. If you have enjoyed a windfall income, you can contribute a significant portion of the same and contact a few other big shot contributors and try and set up a building maintenance fund for the institution. The building maintenance fund will be deposited with a reputed bank and the investment will earn interest.

Only the interest income can be used for carrying out the maintenance activities. The best part is that such a donation takes care of the building maintenance requirements not just for one or two years but for many years at a stretch. You have the option of retaining control over the fund and may choose to release it only when you are satisfied that the funds will be utilized for a beneficiary purpose.

Charity Sans Ceremony – Not A Big Deal Provided You Inform The Charity In Advance

Should you focus on the ceremonial aspects of donating to charity organizations? Some persons enjoy a lot when their contribution is acknowledged in a formal manner. A formal letter or acknowledgment by offering invitations to charity events is considered a standard part of procedure of receiving donations.

If you do not wish to follow such an elaborate procedure and if you wish to have a low scale arrangement, then make it a point to get in touch with the administrators of the charity organization and convey your request well in advance. The last thing you want is for your name to be publicized as a generous donor when you want complete privacy.

Just to play it safe, make sure you post your request in writing. If you have sent an e-mail to the organization, have a copy of the print out in your hand just in the event you need to remind people that you do not wish any grand procedure or formality to be associated with your contribution.

If you are donating cash, you can always send it across in the hands of a trusted friend or relative or can simply post the check. However, if you are donating in kind, then you may be required to make a personal visit to the charity home.

If you are not comfortable doing so, you have the option of depositing the money to the service provider and issuing instructions that will ensure the goods or the material reaches the charitable organization in a proper manner.

Ideally, you should not hesitate to interact personally with the charity organization and should acknowledge your contribution. However, if you do not want attention for various reasons ranging from guilt to embarrassment, you can opt for many ways to contribute anonymously. Just make sure the paperwork is in your name and does not contain any flaws or mistakes.

Volunteering is Beneficial to Your Health

If you are looking for a way to help your community, consider volunteering at a local halfway house. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that between September 2008 and September 2009, 63.4 million Americans volunteered their time. Volunteers provide a sense of vitality and purpose to halfway house residents, which is a key element in helping others to be successful in kicking their addictions.

The ability to help others in need provides a great sense of satisfaction, pride and accomplishment that some people cannot put into words. Volunteering will strengthen your sense of belonging; it is empowering, humbling and therapeutic. When you help others to live a better life, you are making the world a better place.

In the last 20 years, research has shown that volunteering provides health benefits as well as social benefits. This research has proven that volunteers have lower mortality rates, lower rates of depression, and greater functional ability. The older a volunteer is the more health benefits there are, which experts believe is due to the social and physical activity, and the feeling of being needed and having a purpose.

Volunteering also provides the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. For example, if you volunteered at MichaelsHouse.com, you might be asked to create a flyer about an upcoming event. You find that you like the creativity involved in doing such work and ask to create more flyers in the future. You can add this new skill to your resume. You’ll get to know other volunteers, staff members, and patients, making new friends. You could also network with others that have similar interests, goals, and dreams.

When you volunteer at a halfway house and see firsthand how drug and alcohol abuse ruins people’s lives and you’ll think twice about abusing those substances. You’ll see how precious life, family, and friends are and you will never take these people for granted.

Do Not Judge A Charity By Its Website – Look Deeper For Clues

Is the presence of a good and fancy looking website sufficient proof that the charitable organization is trustworthy? Certainly not. Setting up a fancy looking website is not a difficult task. What matters is whether the charitable organization has uploaded useful information on the same.

If its objectives, activities and goals and resources have been explained in detail and if you have a clear idea of what the organization is all about after visiting its website, this should definitely rank in its favor.

On the other hand, if you can sense that the website has been designed more as a formality and less as a medium of providing information to the public, you should be careful and do extra research before you decide upon a charitable contribution to the organization.

Charitable organizations receive donations from hundreds and thousands of individuals in a single year. They are experts in helping people donate better. Many persons come with the right intentions but have a very wrong approach towards the process.

In many cases, the charitable organization finds itself providing guidance and assistance to the donors themselves. Is there any section of the website that focuses on potential donors? Simply requesting people to donate or contribute does not make sense. Is there anything in the website that makes you feel as if your donation will be valued highly?

From details of past donations received and comments about their experiences to invitation to check out the activities of the organization by a real life visit -there are many potential steps that can help the individual wish to donate better.

Hence, do not restrict yourself to just the website and what it seems on the face of the same. Rather, focus on content and additional information to conclude whether you are dealing with a good entity or not.

Good At Counseling? A Lawyer? Offer Your Services As Charity To Abused Women

Counseling services for those individuals who emotionally and physically harass their partners often ends on a somber note. The individual realizes that his or her tendency to dominate the other person was always a cry for help. Just as the victim is provided counseling to overcome the trauma, the abuser is also provided counseling to identify the flaws in his or her own mindset and work behavior.

This means that those people who abuse their partners are not strong and dominant. Rather, they are weak and pathetic people who are trying their best to hide their flaws by abusing their partner. It is important to prove the other individual as inferior so that the weak individual can convince himself or herself that weakness is not a problem.

This is the reason why the mere threat of legal action is sufficient to bring a majority of abusive husbands in line. Once matters end in the courts and once the court orders in favor of the women, the men quickly back out of the confrontation and prefer to grumble and complain in the privacy of their homes.

If you are a lawyer, you can take advantage of this tendency to provide relief to battered women. You can offer to represent them for free in courts of law. The mere fact that the wife can now threaten the husband with legal action and can opt for divorce instead of living in an abusive relationship can make a huge difference.

Despite your offer, many women may prefer sticking to their abusive husband. However, the fact that there is somebody out there for them who will fight for them has a very positive effect on their mindset.

In such a scenario, whether you offer your services directly to the abused women or whether you work through a charitable organization that will provide additional services as well, you can be rest assured of making a huge difference.

Sometimes giving to others is something that you forget to do. It’s never something you refuse to do, but rather it’s something that falls by the wayside during your busy life. However, during the holiday season you should be looking for ways to give back. It’s the time of year where you can really celebrate just how fortunate you are and it’s a time to remember that there are those out there who aren’t as lucky as you are.

If you are interested in giving back this holiday season there are a lot of things you can do to help out others. Here are a few of the things you can do.

The first is organize your own toy drive. This might seem like a lot of work but it can actually something that can be a lot of fun. You should collect toys, or cash for toys from friends and family. Ask for five or ten dollars a person. Certainly you will take more if they can give more. But you don’t have to have much.

With the money that you get you take it to the local toy store and start to stock up. Get smaller gifts and things that are one sale. Get toys that are good for just boys, just girls, and both. Once you do that you should have amassed quite a collection of toys. If you think about it you can talk to the manager and let him or her know that you are buying for a toy drive and they may be able to cut you a break.

Once you have the toys you should take them over to the local children’s hospital. There you can bring them to the kids on the floor who are spending the night in a hospital, many with very serious health conditions. This is great way to give back to those who are less fortunate.

The holiday season is about spending time with you and your loved ones. It’s about giving to those who have less and it’s about taking the time to realized just how truly blessed you are to be alive and have the life you have. It’s something that everyone can understand and revel on. However, for many it is also a time to teach children a valuable lesson about what the true definition of charity is and how they can be a part of the giving season. Don’t waste this opportunity to build a person of substance, or someone who understands how to appreciate the gifts they have been given. Here are two ways to energize your child to giving during the holiday season.

The first thing to do is make them donate some of their toys. There are toy drives all over the country and they are always looking for new and used toys. Telling your child that you are going to ask them to give up toys for other kids will be a good start to the giving season. The trick is to make sure that the child gives up toys that they like and that they play with often. It’s a good example of what it truly means to sacrifice for someone else.

The next thing to do is to take them shopping for others. Taking them shopping for the toys for tots program is a great way to teach them a lesson about why the holidays are about giving. It’s important to make the trip all about the other kids. Buying your child toys while shopping for the less fortunate is not a good message to send. Make your child go without for that trip and make them involved in the toy buying experience.

These are just some ways to teach kids the importance of giving. It’s a valuable life lesson that will serve them well.
