How you can Donate to Your Local Community.

Are you looking for ways to give to your community? In most areas there are many ways that you can help. Whether you want to donate items, money, or time, there are a lot of options to choose from. The first thing you will want to do is to decide how you want to help. Are you going to give money to a local charity? Are you going to do volunteer work for a local shelter? Maybe you want to do something else. Here are a few ideas to help you figure out what might be the right way for you to help out.

  1. Local food shelf: You can donate non-perishable food to a local food shelf to help feed families in need. If you grow fresh fruits or vegetables some food shelves will accept that too. You could also see if they need any volunteer help.

  2. Thrift stores: If you have any items around the house that you no longer want, and they are in good shape, donate them. Most areas have non-profit thrift stores, like Salvation Army, that will accept donated goods. They will then sell them at low prices for low-income people and use the profits to help in the community.

  3. Homeless shelter: A local homeless shelter can be a great place to help. You can donate money to help with staffing and other costs. You can donate food to be given to the homeless who go there. You can also volunteer your time to help do cleaning or help prepare meals.

  4. Church: A local church is a great place to go if you want to do good. Most churches have programs to help people in need. You can donate money to help with these programs or you can ask if they need any volunteer help. Even if your church does not have any programs, they can probably help you find a place that could use your help.

A New Way to Donate

In the world of charitable giving and helping people in times of need, there is a new concept coming to the forefront called microgiving. Microgiving consists of many people becoming involved in an area of need and helping to resolve that need through time, money, and/or resources, without expecting something in return.

Of course, this concept is not new, except that now, through mediums like the Internet and social networks, individuals and businesses from all over the world can help people and get involved in charitable giving.

Think about that.

This means that someone from South Africa and someone from Britain can be involved in helping a person, or a group, in Chile; and they can know that it is a legitimate charity or need for help. How cool is that?

It is a fact that most people would like to become involved and help someone in need. Unfortunately, most of us cannot contribute heavily in the financial area. With microgiving, many people can come together to help one individual, one family, one neighborhood, one town, maybe even one country.

Think about that.

What would it be like to help one individual keep their heat on and, at the same time, help a town that has just been devastated by an earthquake? What would it be like to know that many others, just like you, who can’t give a lot, are joining together to help make good things happen?

This is the concept of microgiving. It is a way for people to become part of a giving community that can help others in times of need across the world or right next door. It is working together to bring help and happiness to those that are suffering and to be part of a community that cares – all for about the price of a cup of latte.

Think about that.

The future is brighter as this concept grows. Now is your chance to get involved.
